Magi and Animals, Lords and Livestock, Kings and a… donkey. What do these all have in common? They were all working titles for our fabulous upcoming concert - ‘Magi’s Menagerie’.
It is commonly held that Malcolm Gladwell wrote, in his book, “Outliers, the story of success” that it takes 10,000 hours of practise in a field to become an expert. This is one of the misinterpretations I most enjoy - it just isn’t his case, and is only half the story.
“I don’t like choir…” Well, those aren’t my words. I fell in love with choirs years ago, but I’m always surprised by people who state “I don’t like choir,” because if you like music, then I’m sorry. You probably like choir… you just don’t know it.
A number of years ago I recorded compositions I’d written for each of my children hoping that the recordings would connect them to their childhood and our family in some meaningful way, through the years to come. Virtually every culture of the world has given expression to the intangible values and experiences of that people group via music.
